Portraits

A few months ago, I photographed Australian female athletes in an abandoned factory in Brisbane. Far from their usual playing fields and training facilities.

For the duration of a shoot, this industrial space became the stage for a surprising photographic exploration.
The concrete, sandbags, and metal panels bring texture and rawness.

It’s in this atmosphere that I wanted to capture the power and grace of these female bodies sculpted by years of training.

Bodybuilding, surfing, running, softball and soccer: five disciplines, five approaches to the body, five ways of embodying strength. The bodybuilder asserts her muscular presence against the architectural solidity. The surfers, accustomed to the fluidity of the ocean, freeze in this static and mineral universe. The runner brings the energy of movement to a space frozen in time. The softball and soccer players embody team spirit and collective strength, transposed into the solitude of these abandoned walls.
The contrast is striking.
On one side, vitality, discipline, performance. On the other, silence and industrial memory. Between these two worlds, a creative tension emerges: each discipline reveals a different facet of feminine strength in this atypical setting, creating a visual dialogue between human and environment.
